13-Year-Old Boy Arrested After Petrol Bombs in Derry

A 13-year-old boy was arrested after police said masked youths threw petrol bombs and other items at patrol cars in Derry.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland [PSNI] has released a statement after repeated anti-social behaviour committed by ‘masked youths’ over the past few weeks in Derry.. A number of individuals, believed to be youths, have been involved in incidents on the evenings of April 20 and 21 and May 4 and 5.. The incidents over the last week have occurred in the Bishop Street, The Fountain and Nailors Row areas of the city.. Police received

a report at around 5.30pm on Tuesday, May 5 of a number of masked youths gathered.. Fireworks set off and petrol bombs, glass bottles and masonry thrown at police vehicles.. Derry City & Strabane Inspector Ferriby said: “Bishop Street was closed temporarily to deal with the disorder, causing disruption and fear yet again to the local communities.” A 13-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of riotous behaviour and has since been released on bail to

allow for further enquiries, police said.. “An investigation is underway to identify all those involved, and we will take action against anyone identified as committing offences,” Inspector Ferriby said..
