Vampire Marriage Woes Take A Deadly Turn In Eternally Yours

After a decade in development, the creators of ‘Ghosts’ bring ‘Eternally Yours’ to CBS, delivering a messy, supernatural family comedy with a premiere twist.
The spark didn’t just fade for Liz and Charles; it spent five centuries slowly dimming. After waiting more than a decade to bring their vision to the screen. creators Joe Port and Joe Wiseman finally launched their latest project. “Eternally Yours. ” on Thursday night—and they didn’t wait long to introduce a complication that lands squarely in the living room.
Starring Ed Weeks. Allegra Edwards. and Rose Abdoo. the CBS comedy follows a vampire couple struggling to navigate the monotony of eternity and the complexities of modern life. They share a home with their coven, including their daughter Emma, played by Helen J. Shen. The domestic tension shifts from annoying to life-altering during the series premiere when Emma’s new boyfriend. Max. enters the picture.
The situation dissolves into chaos almost immediately. Liz and Charles initially intended to hunt Max, marking their first human target in centuries. When they realize he is dating their daughter. they pull back. only for Mort—a young coven member testing his telekinetic skills—to accidentally kill the boy. The only solution for the family is to turn Max into a vampire. a desperate move that binds him to their household.
According to the coven’s rules. “you break it. you buy it.” By turning Max. the family is now obligated to take him in. permanently. For Wiseman. the decision to make Max a vampire wasn’t just a plot device; it was a necessary shift for the season’s trajectory. “It’s a very big change. ” Wiseman noted. adding that the dynamic is already strained because Charles is “not a fan” of Max dating his daughter. Beyond the interpersonal friction. Max enters the coven with a human’s perspective. poised to challenge how things have been done for centuries.
While the show explores the supernatural. the core of the premise is rooted in the very real. very long-term working partnership between Port and Wiseman. “It was sort of based on Joe and my long-term writing partnership, and our long friendship,” Port said. The pair. who also helm the long-running series “Ghosts. ” which is heading into its sixth season. began by asking what the most extreme example of being stuck with someone forever would look like. The answer was vampires.
Now that both shows reside on CBS, the creators are already eyeing the possibility of a shared universe. “It feels very fun and just kind of old school,” Port said. Logistically. a crossover would involve sending the vampires to visit the ghosts. an easier feat given that the vampires are not bound to a single house. While no concrete plans exist, the creators aren’t ruling it out.
For now, the drama unfolds on Thursday nights at 8:30 p.m. ET on CBS, where the new addition to the coven must find his footing—whether his new in-laws like it or not.
