Trump Reverses Course After Signing Major Russia Sanctions Legislation

Donald Trump has changed his position on legislation authorizing strict sanctions against Russia, just a month after signing the measure into law.

Just over a month after signing The Lindsey O. Graham Sanctioning Russia and Iran Act of 2026, Donald Trump has reversed course. The legislation, named after the recently deceased senator and prominent congressional supporter of Ukraine, provided the administration with the authority to impose stringent new sanctions against Russia.

When the measure was initially enacted, the White House marked the occasion on social media with the message "For Lindsey," accompanied by a small American flag.
