Trump Attacks Nonexistent Candidate in Late-Night Michigan Senate Tirade

In a late-night post, Donald Trump attacked a nonexistent political candidate, misnaming Michigan Democratic Senate nominee Dr. Abdul El-Sayed while doubling down on his endorsement of Mike Rogers.

The message hit Truth Social late Wednesday, long after the campaign trail had gone quiet. President Donald Trump took aim at what he called a “Terrorist Sympathizer,” identifying the target as “Mohammed El-Sayed.”

The name does not belong to anyone running for office in this year’s midterm elections. While the president’s rhetoric specifically targeted a “Mohammed El-Sayed,” the Michigan Democratic U.S. Senate nominee is actually Dr. Abdul El-Sayed. Born in suburban Detroit to Egyptian immigrants, the candidate is currently leading his Republican challenger, former Rep. Mike Rogers, in polls—though that lead remains narrow and sits within the margin of error.

In his post. Trump claimed this nonexistent figure “goes back to the days of the Jihad” and branded him a “RADICAL Extremist” and “America Hating Hasan Piker’s best friend.” He contrasted this with his support for the Republican contender: “Mohammed El-Sayed is a terrible Candidate for the Dumocrats. While his opponent, Mike Rogers, is an extremely good one… Mohammed’s Values are not exactly those of Michiganders, or those of our Great United States of America!. He is WRONG for Michigan, and WRONG for America. VOTE FOR MIKE ROGERS — HE HAS MY COMPLETE AND TOTAL ENDORSEMENT.”.

This is not the first time the former president has focused his ire on the Democratic nominee. Just one day earlier. on Tuesday. he criticized Fox News for airing an interview with the Senate hopeful. though he referred to him only by his last name at that time. “FoxNews spends more time covering the Jihadist and Dumocrat candidates than they do the good old fashioned Republicans. ” Trump wrote. specifically citing an interview conducted by Martha MacCallum. “All they talk about is Dumocrat Jihadists like El-Sayed.”.

The escalation mirrors tensions that have persisted since the August primary. When Republican attack ads previously utilized his full first name. Abdulrahman. the candidate issued a sharp public response: “They think they want to use my whole name against me. Mike. listen. man. if you can’t say the name — it’s Abdulrahman — keep the name out of your damn mouth. I’ll be happy to give you lessons.”.

The intensity of the rhetoric marks a stark divergence in the Michigan Senate race. One side remains locked in a battle over names and identities, while the other—having secured a high-profile endorsement—finds itself the subject of an argument centered on a person who does not exist.
