Samsung Overhauls SmartThings Interface With Predictive Contextual Design

Samsung SmartThings – Samsung is rolling out a significant update to its SmartThings platform, introducing predictive ‘SmartThings Now’ cards, local network controls, and Matter 1.6 support across mobile and smart appliances.

The familiar Home tab in your Samsung smart home ecosystem is about to look and act differently. Samsung has officially pushed out a design refresh for the SmartThings app, shifting the platform away from a static list of devices toward a more proactive, context-aware interface.

The most visible change is the introduction of ‘SmartThings Now.’ Borrowing heavily from the Now Brief design language seen in One UI. the app now uses a series of cards centered on the Home tab. These cards aren’t just decorative; they aggregate personalized information based on your location, past usage patterns, and daily habits. Samsung’s system now dynamically prioritizes routines and may even suggest a reorganization of your home screen layout as the seasons change.

This shift toward automation carries tangible implications for household management. When you pull into your driveway. the app might offer a one-tap solution to illuminate the house. or suggest cranking the air conditioner as you head home. The platform also bridges a gap in telemonitoring: through the Family Care feature. the app monitors for activity and will send a notification if an older family member shows no activity for an extended period. offering a digital layer of caregiving support.

Navigating these features is designed to feel more tactile. A new floating bar anchors the most frequently used functions near the bottom of the screen. while the wallpaper now shifts in real-time. responding to weather changes and time of day. The entire Home interface has been streamlined to keep crucial information in focus rather than buried in menus.

Beyond the visuals, the update addresses two common points of failure in smart home setups: connectivity and interoperability. The app now supports local controls. meaning you can maintain command over your devices via Wi-Fi even when your home internet goes down. Furthermore. Samsung has integrated support for Matter 1.6. the latest iteration of the protocol. which is specifically aimed at tightening security between connected devices.

These changes have hit Android devices following a similar refresh that reached iOS users last week. The new interface isn’t limited to smartphones; it is rolling out to Samsung smart TVs, refrigerators, and any appliances equipped with 7- or 9-inch displays that feature Smart Hub support.
