Odell Beckham Jr. finds a new home in Minnesota as the struggling Vikings offense looks for a spark following his release from the Giants.
The phone call to Minneapolis marks the latest pivot in a career defined by high stakes and long absences. Odell Beckham Jr. is trading the New York locker room for the Minnesota practice squad, a move the Vikings confirmed on Wednesday just one week after his release from the Giants.
His reunion with the franchise that drafted him 12th overall in 2014 was intended to be a homecoming. but it stalled almost as soon as it began. Beckham failed to record a single catch during his short tenure. He saw only one target. a deep shot from quarterback Jameis Winston during a Week 3 appearance. and logged a total of six snaps in the team’s 12-7 victory over the Tennessee Titans.
The path to this point has been volatile. Before this season. Beckham spent more than a year away from the game. sidelined by a six-game suspension following a failed performance-enhancing drug test during the 2025 season. He clawed his way onto the Giants’ 53-man opening-day roster this year only after an injury to wide receiver Calvin Austin. coupled with promising preseason outings against the New York Jets and the Miami Dolphins.
Now, Beckham arrives in a city where the offense is searching for its identity. Under fifth-year head coach Kevin O’Connell. the Vikings have maintained a perfect record to start the season. yet their statistical output paints a different picture. The team currently sits with the second-fewest total yards in the league at 1. 051 and dwells in the bottom spot for passing production with just 624 yards through the air.
Placing a veteran of his caliber on the practice squad creates an immediate insurance policy for a passing attack currently struggling to find rhythm. The transition from a struggling starter in New York to a practice squad depth piece in Minnesota underscores how rapidly the professional landscape has shifted for the veteran receiver in less than a month.
