Odell Beckham Jr. has joined the Minnesota Vikings’ practice squad, signaling a new chapter following his departure from the New York Giants.
The phone call came just as Odell Beckham Jr.’s brief return to the New York Giants was ending. On the other end was Minnesota Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell. and the message was simple: he wanted Beckham in Minnesota. For a veteran wide receiver navigating the uncertainty of a mid-season release. that level of direct interest carried weight that went beyond the business of football.
“It seemed as if he wanted me to be here,” Beckham said during a Wednesday press conference. “And that was expressed to me. And that feels good. It always feels better when you’re doing it for somebody who, you know, you feel like their heart is there for it as well.”
It was a swift transition for the veteran. The Vikings confirmed on Wednesday that they have signed the wide receiver to their practice squad. marking a new chapter for the player who began his career as the No. 12 overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft. His second stint with the Giants had proved short-lived, lasting only three games before the organization moved on.
Now, the Vikings find themselves in a position where they need that veteran presence. The team is currently navigating a period of uncertainty at the wide receiver position; Justin Jefferson has been sidelined with an ankle injury that kept him out of the team’s Week 4 victory over the Miami Dolphins. and Jordan Addison is managing a hamstring issue.
Minnesota enters this transition period with momentum. holding an undefeated 4-0 record as they prepare for their Week 5 clash against the New Orleans Saints. Should Jefferson and Addison be unable to return to the field. the path is clear for Beckham to potentially make his debut in a Vikings uniform. providing depth to a roster that is currently being tested by health concerns.
