Lord of the Dance star Michael Flatley has announced the death of his wife of twenty years, Niamh O’Brien, at age 52.
The silence in the home of Michael Flatley is heavy today. On Monday, October 5, the 68-year-old choreographer announced that his wife, Niamh O’Brien, has died at age 52.
“My heart is broken. I have lost my beautiful wife, Niamh, and my best friend,” Flatley wrote in a message shared on Instagram. He described his partner of two decades as his “gorgeous bride” who had “gone to the Lord in Heaven.”
For those who have followed the couple’s life together, the announcement marks a somber end to a partnership that began with their 2006 wedding at St. Patrick’s Church in County Cork, Ireland. A year after their marriage, the pair welcomed their son, Michael St. James.
“She was the most loving mother, wife and person, and our lives will never be the same without her,” Flatley wrote. He concluded his message by asking for privacy and prayers for himself, their son, and their wider family.

Flatley’s own team shared that he had been diagnosed with an “aggressive form of cancer. ” noting that he had undergone surgery and was under the care of a team of doctors.
