McDonald’s Brings Back Monopoly Game With Digital Twist

McDonald's Monopoly – The classic McDonald’s Monopoly promotion returns Oct. 6 with a new digital-first approach, offering prizes from free food to a $1 million grand prize.
The familiar feeling of peeling back a sticker from a soda cup or fry container is back. but the way customers claim their winnings has undergone a permanent shift. Beginning October 6. the McDonald’s Monopoly promotion returns to menus nationwide. tethering its decades-old physical tradition to the company’s mobile application.
While the tactile ritual remains, the mechanics of the game have moved firmly into the digital space. Customers will still find peel-off game pieces on packaging for eligible breakfast. lunch. and dinner items—including Quarter Pounders with Cheese. Egg McMuffins. large fries. and large hot or cold drinks. However, to participate, those pieces must now be scanned directly into the McDonald’s app.
This integration requires users to register for the game within the app and opt into the brand’s loyalty program. Those who place orders digitally or provide their rewards code at the counter can secure bonus Chance Card plays, provided they are registered before finalizing their purchase.
The prize pool remains substantial. anchored by a $1 million grand prize. which the company will distribute in annual installments of $50. 000 over 20 years. Other rewards include 2027 Jeep Cherokees, trips to the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex, Carnival cruise vacations, and Polaris vehicles. For some. the winnings will be more practical: $50. 000 toward home down payments or student debt. alongside various gift cards and food vouchers.

She noted the company’s intent to streamline the process: “This year. we’re giving fans even more reasons to play with bigger prizes. more rewards. and a simpler digital game experience that includes the classic peel.”.
Participation comes with specific time constraints. The game runs through November 1, or until supplies of the game pieces are exhausted. Secondary “Chance Card” digital gameplay is slated to continue through November 8, with all final prize claims due by November 22. While the company notes that no purchase is necessary to participate. the odds of winning any prize are approximately 1 in 5. with the vast majority of those being food items.
The promotion arrives at a pivotal moment for the corporation, which recently reported a slowdown in U.S. sales as its focus on value deals struggled to gain expected traction. As the brand commits $8.5 billion toward restaurant revamps. technology. and franchise support. this digital-heavy version of its most iconic contest serves as a clear test of how effectively they can drive app adoption through familiar nostalgia.
