Kochetkov Returns To The Crease Against Visiting Vancouver Canucks
Goaltender Pyotr Kochetkov earns his second start of the season as the Carolina Hurricanes face the Vancouver Canucks at 7 p.m. tonight.
The tension of a long-awaited return vanished Saturday night in Philadelphia, but for Pyotr Kochetkov, the real test begins now. After nine months away from regular-season action following lower-body surgery. the 27-year-old goaltender is slated to make his second start of the year tonight in Raleigh.
Kochetkov heads into the crease against the Vancouver Canucks having already shaken off the rust. His season debut saw him turn away 16 of 18 shots, a performance that helped stabilize the team’s momentum. The Hurricanes will keep their faith in a winning rhythm. deploying the exact same lineup that carried them through victories in their last two outings.
Central to that success has been Sebastian Aho. With four goals across his last three appearances—including three-point nights in both of the team’s most recent wins—Aho’s offensive output currently ranks him tied for fourth among all NHL skaters. Tonight at 7 p.m. on the Hurricanes Hockey Network, the center will look to extend his goal-scoring streak to four consecutive games.
Behind Aho, the roster remains steady. The forward units feature Carrier. Aho. and Svechnikov on the top line. followed by Hall. Stankoven. and Blake; Ehlers. Staal. and Martinook; and Kotkaniemi. Jankowski. and Robinson. On the blue line, Slavin pairs with Chatfield, Miller with Walker, and Gostisbehere with Reilly.
Power play strategy remains a fluid, tactical affair. Jordan Staal is currently tasked with taking the opening faceoffs for both units. If Staal wins the draw. he stays on the ice until the puck exits the zone; if the puck clears. he exits. allowing Nikolaj Ehlers to join the first unit or Mark Jankowski to step into the second.
As the team prepares for the 7 p.m. puck drop, the depth chart reflects a side playing with confidence. Seth Jarvis remains sidelined with an injury, while Nic Deslauriers and Juuso Valimaki are healthy scratches for the evening’s contest.
