Jaguar’s Type 01 Gamble: Radical Design Meets Raw Power
Jaguar Type – Jaguar has pulled the veil off the Type 01, a high-performance electric grand tourer pushing the limits of aerodynamics and output.
The low roofline cuts a silhouette that feels like a deliberate departure from everything else on the road. When Jaguar promised a grand tourer that would not arrive unnoticed, they weren’t relying on hyperbole. The production model of the Type 01. unveiled today. maintains the aggressive proportions of its prototype—the short front. the elongated rear. the massive 23-inch wheels. and the impossibly long hood.
It is a massive machine. measuring 5. 235 mm in length and 1. 403 mm in height. yet it hides its bulk behind a 50–50 weight distribution and the agility of all-wheel steering. Despite its imposing size, this is the most aerodynamic Jaguar ever built. Through a combination of active vanes. a deployable spoiler. and sophisticated airflow management. the car achieves a drag coefficient of 0.23 Cd.
Underneath the metal lies a 850-volt bespoke architecture paired with a 118-kilowatt-hour usable battery. It is designed for endurance, offering an EPA-estimated range of 400 miles, or 450 miles on the WLTP cycle. For those covering long distances, it maintains a ‘sustained highway speed’ range of 320 miles. When the power runs low, a 350 kW rapid DC charger can pull back 200 miles of range in just 13 minutes.
Performance figures confirm the Type 01 as the most powerful Jaguar road car to date. Its tri-motor setup—a 260-kW motor in the front and twin 310-kW motors in the rear—delivers 1. 030 Pferdestärke (PS) and 1. 365 Newton-meters of torque. The result is a machine capable of hitting 62 mph from a standstill in 3.2 seconds. The acceleration is relentless; it covers the gap from 62 to 112 mph in just four seconds. living up to the brand’s promise of ‘power in reserve.’.
The transition from prototype to production has refined the visual identity of the car. The addition of rear doors grounds the design, moving it away from the experimental feel of early concepts. The front end has been softened to avoid the prototype’s bluff nose. while the rear features full-width. hidden-until-lit lights embedded in horizontal strikethroughs.
Inside. the cabin is divided by a dramatic central spine that runs the length of the interior. creating distinct zones for each occupant. The luxury aesthetic is underscored by ‘brass-inspired’ finishes and a panoramic glass roof equipped with adjustable virtual blinds. In a striking move, Jaguar has removed the rear windscreen entirely. In its place sits a digital ‘ClearSight’ rearview display, embedded in a panoramic soundbar at the base of the windscreen. By aligning the camera feed with the height of the door mirrors. the system aims to eliminate the jarring focal adjustments that often plague digital rearview setups.
This is a calculated collision of high-end aerodynamics and raw output. By pairing the aggressive styling with a tri-motor electric powertrain, Jaguar is betting that the future of the grand tourer is not just silent, but overwhelming.
