A recent MyHeritage study has uncovered a genealogical link between Sydney Sweeney and the late Hollywood icon Marilyn Monroe, identifying them as ninth cousins.
In an unexpected reveal that has bridged the gap between modern Hollywood stardom and mid-century cinema history. a new genealogical study has linked Sydney Sweeney to the legendary Marilyn Monroe. The findings, released by MyHeritage, categorize the *Euphoria* actress and the late bombshell as ninth cousins, once removed.
At the center of this discovery is a shared ancestor. Ezra Perry. an early English settler who lived in Sandwich. Massachusetts. between approximately 1625 and 1689. The connection offers a historical footnote to the frequent aesthetic comparisons that have followed Sweeney throughout her rising career.
For Roi Mandel, director of research at MyHeritage, the data points to a deeper human story. He described the process of uncovering their shared branch as incredible, characterizing the finding as a powerful reminder of how remarkably interconnected humanity is through its vast family tree.
This familial thread also extends to other corners of the film industry. The study notes that Dakota Johnson, who has previously portrayed Monroe, shares a similar lineage as the late star’s ninth cousin, three times removed.
These genealogical ties emerge decades after Monroe’s life ended at age 36 in August 1962. A cultural icon remembered for classic performances in *Some Like It Hot* and *The Prince and the Showgirl*, Monroe never had the opportunity to meet the younger performer who now shares her ancestry.
Sweeney. who first gained prominence through roles in *Everything Sucks!*. *The Handmaid’s Tale*. and *Sharp Objects*. saw her trajectory shift significantly with the 2019 debut of *Euphoria*. Following the HBO hit. she solidified her industry presence with *The White Lotus* and a string of major box office releases including *Anyone but You*—which co-starred Glen Powell—*Madame Web*. *Immaculate*. and *Reality*. As she continues her career. she is already looking toward 2027. when the sequel to *The Housemaid*. titled *The Housemaid’s Secret*. is slated for release.
