Four Boys Arrested In DC Armed Burglary Crime Spree

four boys – Four teenagers, ages 13 to 14, are in custody following a series of burglaries, armed robberies, and an attempted sexual assault across Washington, D.C.

The youngest suspect is just 13 years old. yet police say he and three 14-year-old peers are responsible for a month-long crime spree that escalated from simple break-ins to violent confrontations and sexual assault. The arrests. announced following a series of incidents spanning September 5 through October 2. mark a grim turning point for investigators who tracked the group across Northeast D.C.

Interim D.C. police Chief Jeffery Carroll acknowledged the gravity of the situation. noting the shock of seeing such young children caught in a cycle of escalating violence. “It’s always concerning when young people. as young as 13 years old. are involved in criminal activity. especially when they include firearms and potential sexual offenses. ” Carroll said.

The string of crimes grew increasingly bold. What began as burglaries of empty homes eventually involved residents being held at gunpoint. The final encounter occurred in the 1000 block of Sigsbee Place NE, where two victims were assaulted and one fought off an attempted sexual assault.

Though all four boys face charges, their level of participation varied. Investigators believe one boy was involved in all eight burglaries. while another participated in seven. and the remaining two were tied to three incidents each. They operated in rotating groups of two or three, frequently targeting the rear of residences to gain entry. During the later break-ins, the suspects began displaying firearms to intimidate victims.

The motive appeared to be quick profit. The group targeted portable, high-value items like cellphones, tools, and purses, but often escalated the theft to vehicle theft, taking car keys from inside the homes. Police have since recovered four of those stolen vehicles in Southeast D.C.

The pattern of these crimes—moving from unoccupied homes to armed robberies—shows a rapid acceleration of risk for both the residents and the suspects themselves. The proximity of these incidents. connected by stolen property found at subsequent scenes. eventually provided the trail needed for detectives to close in.

Surveillance video. evidence recovered from the scenes. and tips from the community helped police piece together the timeline after they released images on Saturday regarding the September 19 break-in on D Street NE and the October 2 case. While the investigation remains active as detectives review additional leads. the department is left grappling with the broader implications of the youth involved. For the Chief, the solution rests in immediate adult intervention. “Pay attention and provide guidance and mentorship to these young people,” Carroll said.

Authorities have not released the names of the four boys, and details regarding their upcoming court proceedings remain pending.
