Comedians Lash Out as Maniscalco SiriusXM Channel Replaces Raw

Sebastian Maniscalco – Working-class comedians are protesting a SiriusXM channel rebranding that shifted focus from hundreds of independent voices to a smaller, celebrity-heavy rotation.

The checks once covered a car payment; now, they barely cover a quarter of weed. For working-class comedians. the transition of a long-standing SiriusXM station—formerly known as Raw Comedy—into Sebastian Maniscalco’s Comedy Radio hasn’t been a neutral corporate shift. It has been a direct blow to their livelihoods.

Earlier this year, the platform rebranded the channel, moving away from a format that featured over 800 working-class comedians. In its place, a new station led by Maniscalco emphasizes a narrower pool of talent. According to Stand Up for Stand Up. a nonprofit supporting the industry. the change has concentrated plays and royalties among the top 50 artists. More than 75% of the spins are now allocated to this elite echelon. leaving the broader comedy community with significantly less exposure and income.

Comedian Liz Miele noted in a video that the roster has plummeted from 800 working-class acts to fewer than 300. a list largely comprised of deceased legends like Joan Rivers. Johnny Carson. Bob Hope. and Norm Macdonald. alongside a select group of famous living performers. Comedian Matt Ruby claimed on his Substack that the move is “crushing” those who relied on the platform’s royalty payments to pad their income. On social media, others were more blunt. Gianmarco Soresi posted a photo of Maniscalco on X asking. “Aren’t you embarrassed?” while Ashley Ray shared that the reduced revenue has significantly impacted her personal finances.

The friction has drawn in heavyweights like Patton Oswalt. Michelle Wolf. and Margaret Cho. who have posted videos imploring Maniscalco to reverse the decision. “Get those young comedians back on the Sirius channel,” Oswalt said. “Let them get those checks.” Wolf added, “Comics, we’re together on this. We want it to change.”.

The concentration of wealth toward top-tier celebrities is a departure from the previous infrastructure that supported emerging talent. This systemic pivot fundamentally alters discoverability for comedians who lack mainstream fame. effectively stripping them of both an audience and a passive revenue stream.

While the anger is directed at Maniscalco. a defensive chorus has emerged online. arguing that the comedian is a figurehead rather than a program director. One user on X pointedly remarked. “The amount of comedians that think Sebastian Maniscalco is a program director is f—ing sad. He sold his name to be on the channel. he’s not deciding who gets played.” Other supporters echoed this. insisting that the corporate decision rested with SiriusXM rather than the man whose name is on the marquee.

In April. a SiriusXM press release announced the new station as being “curated and headlined by Maniscalco.” When asked for comment. SiriusXM stated that they work with creative partners to “program the best possible experience” and that the launch introduced a new creative direction. The company maintained that it continues to invest in comedians more than any other audio platform. Requests for comment sent to Maniscalco remained unaddressed at the time of publication.
