Comedians Battle Sebastian Maniscalco Over Shifting SiriusXM Channel Strategy

A backlash is brewing as comics protest the sidelining of emerging talent on the Raw Comedy SiriusXM channel following its takeover by Sebastian Maniscalco.

When the Raw Comedy channel on SiriusXM underwent a creative shift under Sebastian Maniscalco, the change was intended to mark a new direction. For hundreds of working comedians, however, the change feels more like an eviction.

Patton Oswalt and Margaret Cho are leading a growing chorus of performers publicly calling on Maniscalco to abandon his current programming strategy. They argue that by focusing almost exclusively on established celebrities, the channel is dismantling a vital ladder for rising talent. The tension centers on Channel 102. a platform that once served as a primary showcase for a vast range of voices. now narrowed significantly in scope.

A report from the nonprofit Stand Up for Standup underscores the scale of the disruption. Since March, the number of artists receiving airtime on the channel has plummeted from over 800 comedians to just 275. For those who have been cycled out, the impact is both professional and financial. Beyond the loss of visibility. these performers rely on the royalty checks generated by every spin on the satellite radio platform.

“There’s a lot of up-and-coming comedians who are depending on the money and the checks that they get from Sirius. ” Oswalt said in a video posted to Instagram. “But 500 of them have been booted off of Sirius… You can easily reverse this decision. Get those young comedians back on the Sirius channel. Let them get those checks.”.

The math of the airwaves has shifted away from the wider talent pool. concentrating distribution among a top-tier group of household names. Stand Up for Standup contends this narrowing is a systemic issue. stating that the current distribution model is bad for the future of comedy as a whole. Alongside Oswalt and Cho. performers including Liz Miele. Kyle Kinane. and Michelle Wolf have publicly added their voices to the criticism.

SiriusXM maintains that the channel has introduced a regular. evolving programming mix and insists that it continues to invest in comedians more than any other audio platform. Neither the company nor representatives for Maniscalco provided additional comment when asked about the specific decline in artist participation.

For the 500 comedians displaced since March. the technical adjustment to a programming schedule represents a tangible loss of income and opportunity. As the debate continues. the gap between the platform’s stated goal of a ‘new creative direction’ and the reality for those removed from the rotation remains the core of the conflict.
