Colts owner Carlie Irsay called out for her ‘performative’ note-taking on the sideline: ‘What are you writing down?’

Indianapolis Colts owner Carlie Irsay-Gordon is being questioned over the purpose of her note taking, which has gone viral since the start of the NFL season.
Irsay-Gordon, the daughter of late Colts owner Jim Irsay, took over leadership of the team after her father’s death last season.
Since then, she has taken a hands-on approach to running the Colts and has been seen on the sidelines multiple times in the past two seasons.
Irsay-Gordon has often been seen with a headset on and a notepad in hand as she has scribbled thoughts during games in full view of the cameras. She’s admitted that this is to help her study game-day operations and understand coaching decisions.
Despite this clear desire to improve and learn, this has led to many memes and questions over what exactly she has been doing.
‘I want to see Carly Irsay’s notes. I want to know what these notes are. It’s very performative to me,’ said podcaster Ryen Russillo. ‘I think her announcement is performative to the Colts fans that want her to be the hero for a team that is going through a disappointing run.

But podcasters Bill Simmons (L) and Ryen Russillo (R) are mocking this habit of her’s
‘People could say that I’m only saying it because she’s a woman, which would be total bulls*** because Boston made fun of Robert Kraft forever because he brought a stopwatch to a workout.’
‘He walked around with a stopwatch and was manually timing people at workouts. When I see her do it, I want to know what, what are you writing down? Yeah. That’s it. What are you writing down so that we have a better sense of what it is you’re actually evaluating? Share the notes.’
Another prominent sports podcaster, Bill Simmons, called her ‘nuts’ on an episode of his eponymous podcast.
‘I’m not gonna tip toe around this anymore, and I know it’s been a topic the last couple weeks. I think the owner on the sideline taking notes is f—ing nuts,’ Simmons said. ‘I think it’s nuts. I think it’s bonkers.
‘I can’t believe she does this, and I can’t believe people in her life haven’t talked her out of it. And now there’s this push of like, “oh, no, no, no, she’s really into….” If a male owner was doing this, we would be ridiculing this guy till the cows came home.’
‘This would be like when [Sacramento Kings owner] Vivek [Ranadive] was celebrating the summer league title in the NBA, and we thought it was so funny,’ Simmons continued. ‘We would think it was so f—ing funny if some, you know, rich guy, male owner was on the sideline with a notebook like hovering over and giving advice to the coach. … Even Jerry Jones wouldn’t do that.
‘And Irsay’s daughter’s doing it and we’re like, ‘oh yeah, well, she cares about the team.’ Why are we making excuses for how weird this is?’
