Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar declared the facility had “ceased to function as a consulate today.” In a sharp statement. Saar warned that Israel would no longer ignore what he described as “diplomatic attacks against it. ” a direct response to the United Kingdom’s recent decision to ban trade with Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank.
The Israeli government has permitted a pared-down “task force” of seven British diplomats to remain in the building. However, Saar emphasized that the scope of their activity would be strictly limited, signaling a clear reduction in the UK’s regional footprint.
British Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband countered the narrative of a total closure. stating the building will transition into a new designation: the UK Mission. Jerusalem.
