Baystate Health Integrates Mercy Hospital and Launches Modern Records System

Baystate Health announced the successful integration of Baystate Mercy Hospital, its joint venture affiliates, and 45 medical group entities across Massachusetts into its integrated health system. The monumental transition, completed alongside the deployment of a modernized Oracle Health Electronic Health Record across the system and at Baystate Mercy Hospital, represents a significant structural expansion for healthcare delivery in Western Massachusetts.
The simultaneous launch brings care teams across the region onto a unified electronic health record platform and introduces MyBaystate Health, a secure digital patient portal designed to streamline information-sharing and care coordination. Planning and preparation for the union spanned seven months, focusing on system readiness for patients, personnel, and healthcare infrastructure.

Peter D. Banko, President and CEO of Baystate Health, emphasized the historical significance of the union, noting that it preserves a 152-year legacy originally established by the Sisters of Providence. Banko stated that Springfield requires two thriving, successful hospitals for regional health and economic vitality, and outlined upcoming initiatives for physicians and clinicians to explore collaboration between two facilities located six blocks apart.
Despite the name changes for the hospital and affiliated practices, officials confirmed that patients will continue seeing familiar care teams at existing locations in Springfield, Chicopee, and Agawam. Scheduled appointments remain unaffected, contact phone numbers are unchanged, and patients retain their current insurance coverage.

Operational changes accompany the transition. Baystate Mercy Hospital’s 24/7 Emergency Department is now staffed by board-certified emergency medicine faculty from Baystate Health. Additionally, the Sister Caritas Cancer Center has been integrated into Baystate Health’s broader cancer program to expand patient-centered oncology services.
Andrew Ritz, who guided the integration process and now serves as President and COO at Baystate Mercy Hospital, highlighted the continuity of services maintained during the transition. Ritz emphasized that the shared goals of both organizations center on growing Baystate Mercy Hospital, maintaining a stable health system, and improving access to quality local care.

Baystate Health operates as a not-for-profit integrated healthcare system serving more than 800,000 residents across western New England. The organization maintains informational updates for the community regarding the Mercy Hospital transition through its dedicated web page on BaystateHealth.org.
