Arsenal Pursued Vinícius Júnior Aggressively Before Winger Committed Long-Term to Real Madrid

English Premier League club Arsenal pursued Real Madrid winger Vinícius Júnior aggressively before the Brazilian ultimately decided to commit his long-term future to the Spanish giants, according to Michael Yormack, president of Roc Nation Sports International, the agency that advises the player.

Speaking in an interview, Yormack confirmed that the London club made a significant push to secure the forward’s signature. The interest from Arsenal was substantial enough that a move to English football became a genuine consideration for the player.

“The Arsenal estivesse muito envolvido. Eles foram muito agressivos,” Yormack stated, detailing the Premier League side’s pursuit. “Ele chegou a considerar seriamente o Arsenal? Claro que sim. Quando um time como o Arsenal estende o tapete vermelho para você e faz você se sentir realmente desejado, é claro que você precisa ouvir.”

Despite the strong interest and overtures from Arsenal—which reportedly included personal contact from manager Mikel Arteta to convince the winger to move to London—Vinícius ultimately chose to remain in Spain. In August, he signed a lucrative new contract that binds him to Real Madrid until 2032. Yormack noted that the final decision was rooted in the player’s personal attachment to the club, indicating that a departure was never truly guaranteed.

“O coração de Vini bate por Madri. É onde ele sempre quis estar, é onde está e é onde espera passar o restante da carreira,” Yormack said. “Acho que nunca houve dúvidas quanto a isso. Passar toda a carreira em um único clube, o melhor clube do mundo, seria algo muito especial.”

The transfer speculation arrived against a backdrop of occasional friction between the player and sections of the Real Madrid fanbase. Despite his success on the pitch, Vinícius has faced criticism and jeers at the Santiago Bernabéu. His on-field frustrations drew headlines last season when he reacted angrily after being substituted by then-manager Xabi Alonso during a clásico against FC Barcelona, shouting toward the cameras about leaving the team.

The current 2026/27 campaign has also brought sporting challenges for the forward. Through his first ten official matches of the season, he has contributed one goal and three assists. Furthermore, disciplinary trouble in domestic competition resulted in a four-match suspension in LaLiga following an incident where he pulled an opponent’s hair before scoring against FC Villarreal and subsequently lost his composure.

While domestic disciplinary sanctions sideline him in Spain, the suspension does not affect his eligibility in continental competition. Vinícius remains available for Real Madrid’s upcoming UEFA Champions League fixture against RB Leipzig on Wednesday.
