Anthropic Targets Budding AI Founders With Free Claude Access

Anthropic has expanded its Claude for Startups program, offering new ventures a year of free Team access and $1,000 in API credits to spur model development.

The competition for the next generation of AI development shifted to the storefront on Tuesday as Anthropic unveiled a significant expansion of its Claude for Startups program. During the SF Tech Week event. the company moved to lower the barrier for founders looking to build on its infrastructure. offering a suite of incentives to those just starting their journey.

Qualifying companies are now eligible for a free year of the Claude Team plan. which includes up to five premium seats. To push the technical side of development, Anthropic is also handing out $1,000 in API credits. The package extends beyond raw access; participants gain entry to the Claude Marketplace to create plug-ins and can schedule virtual office hours directly with Anthropic’s Applied AI team.

The logic behind the giveaway is rooted in the belief that AI’s real-world utility will ultimately be defined by the companies constructing tools on top of the models. not just the models themselves. By partnering closely with founders and developers, the company views this initiative as a core component of its long-term mission.

Eligibility is restricted to entities founded within the last five years or those that have secured funding in the last two years. Those looking to qualify for the program must submit an application through the official Claude for Startups page.

The push creates a clear pipeline: by subsidizing the early stages of product development, Anthropic is banking on the success of these emerging startups to solidify its own ecosystem. The company is effectively trading today’s operational costs for a foothold in the future of AI-driven enterprise.
