Amazon Shifts Strategy As New Kids Tablets Hit Shelves

Amazon Kids – Amazon is moving away from its budget roots with the launch of the new $230 and $330 Alexa-based Kids Tablets arriving October 14.
The familiar $100 price tag that made Amazon’s Fire tablets a holiday staple for families is officially a thing of the past. When the new Amazon Kids Tablets arrive on October 14. parents will find themselves looking at a different price tier entirely: $230 for the 8.7-inch model and $330 for the 11-inch version.
This shift moves the company’s children’s hardware into a more premium bracket. building the new devices on the foundation of the recent Android-based Alexa Tablet lineup. Both models share the same all-aluminum chassis introduced across the current generation, housing an 8-core processor. Battery performance is tiered by size. offering 14 hours of video playback for the 8.7-inch model and 15 hours for the 11-inch device.
To accommodate the transition from the budget-focused Fire line. Amazon is banking on specialized physical and digital additions to justify the cost. The company is offering two distinct protection styles: a soft bumper case with a handle for children ages three and up—featuring themes like Paw Patrol and Barbie—and a slimmer hard case with a built-in kickstand for children ages six and up.
Software remains the core of the experience. Every purchase includes a one-year subscription to Amazon Kids+, providing ad-free access to books, shows, and games. The interface introduces a new Dynamic Tab that pushes content based on the child’s age. alongside a tool called Storybuilder. which allows users to generate illustrated stories using voice input. As these run on Android, they also maintain access to kid-friendly applications from the Play Store.
The hardware landscape for families is narrowing. By bridging the gap between its general-purpose Alexa tablets and the previous kid-centric software ecosystem. Amazon is betting that parents will pay a premium for a more powerful. aluminum-clad device. Whether this higher barrier to entry changes the tablets’ status as a go-to gift remains to be seen when they debut in mid-October.
