Acton Teen Pleads Not Guilty After AI-Generated Murder Plot

Arjun Aravind – A 17-year-old Acton teen has entered a not guilty plea following the murder of his mother and brother, with prosecutors revealing he used AI to draft violent fantasies.
The quiet suburban home on Martha Lane in Acton became the site of an unfathomable tragedy on August 11. Inside, 45-year-old Sudha Venkatesan and her 14-year-old son, Siddharth Aravind, were killed. On Tuesday. 17-year-old Arjun Aravind stood in Middlesex County Superior Court and entered a plea of not guilty to charges of murder and assault. as well as the theft of his mother’s motor vehicle.
Judge Michael A. Sullivan ordered Aravind held without bail, a decision supported by both the prosecution and the defense. The teenager remains in custody following an indictment by a grand jury on October 1. which moved the case from Concord District Court. where he was originally arraigned on August 13.
Prosecutors provided a chilling window into the days leading up to the violence. Investigators say that in the months prior to the killings. Aravind used ChatGPT to develop “fictitious” storylines involving death and violence directed at his parents. These AI-generated narratives. which Aravind allegedly requested in the style of “Gothic novels. ” reportedly included scenarios about stealing his mother’s car and living out of it. On the day of the murders. prosecutors stated that Aravind engaged in a conversation with the platform that specifically referenced his mother’s death.
The timeline of the August 11 attack was established through a series of missed connections. Aravind’s father last saw his wife at 7 a.m. before leaving for work. Siddharth returned home from a recreational facility shortly after noon. By 6:37 p.m. a scheduled tutor arrived at the home. received no response at the door. and contacted the father. who then requested a wellness check.
When authorities entered the home. they found Siddharth’s body on the first floor and his mother’s in the finished basement. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner determined that both victims died from a combination of blunt and sharp force trauma. as well as mechanical asphyxiation consistent with strangling.
By the time police arrived, Aravind had already fled in his mother’s car. Investigations suggest he showered and changed his clothes before leaving the scene. In the hours that followed, he reportedly purchased food and disposed of his mother’s phone. A search of the vehicle later recovered workout equipment and bedding. Following an overnight alert from Acton police, authorities located Aravind in a Wayland parking lot at approximately 3:30 a.m. the following morning and took him into custody without incident.
The sequence of events suggests a methodical progression from digital fantasy to physical act. By soliciting the AI to refine characters and plotlines centered on his own family, the accused turned private, hypothetical questions into an irreversible reality for those inside the home.
District Attorney Marian Ryan described the event as an insurmountable tragedy for the family and a dark moment for the Acton community. As the legal process moves forward, Aravind is scheduled to return to court for a conference on October 27. An attorney for the teen did not respond to requests for comment.
