Senator Slotkin Accuses Trump of Backing Putin and Undermining Ukraine

Senator Elissa Slotkin launched a sharp critique against President Donald Trump on Monday, accusing him of actively working to secure a Russian victory in the ongoing war in Ukraine. Speaking on MS NOW’s “Deadline,” the Michigan Democrat asserted that Trump’s recent policy decisions and rhetoric clearly favor Moscow over a democratic ally.

Slotkin stated that the administration’s current approach marks a significant and dangerous shift in American foreign policy and global positioning. She pointed to what she described as a long-standing admiration between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, referencing a past meeting in Alaska while active military engagements were underway in Ukraine.

According to Slotkin, the president has abandoned any attempt to obscure his preferences regarding the conflict. She argued that domestic political pressures, including high gasoline prices and involvement in a military conflict in Iran, have driven the administration to alter its foreign policy trajectory.

To support her claims, Slotkin pointed to several specific actions taken by the administration. She alleged that officials have lifted economic sanctions to bolster the Russian war machine, slowed down Starlink satellite connections to hinder Ukrainian defensive operations against incoming projectiles, and decided against enforcing a sanctions bill introduced by Senator Lindsey Graham.

Slotkin concluded that these policy measures demonstrate a direct alignment with an authoritarian government that she also accused of sharing intelligence with the Iranian military regarding the targeting of American personnel.
