Brock Purdy Matches Tom Brady Territory With Elite Start to 2026 NFL Season

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy has cemented himself in elite NFL company following a thrilling 23-17 victory over the Washington Commanders on Monday Night Football at Levi’s Stadium.

With the win, the 49ers improved to a perfect 6-0 on the season, making Purdy only the second quarterback in NFL history to start a season with six consecutive wins while recording 15 or more total touchdowns and two or fewer turnovers. The only other player to accomplish that feat was Tom Brady during the 2015 season with the New England Patriots.

Purdy’s performance against Washington also elevated him to the top of the NFL record books. He became the highest-rated passer in NFL history, boasting a career passer rating of 105.6 among players with at least 1,500 pass attempts. Additionally, he currently holds the number one spot across several key statistical categories for the quarterback position.

Through the first six weeks of the 2026 NFL season, Purdy has accumulated 1,460 passing yards with 14 touchdowns through the air. He has also contributed on the ground with 156 rushing yards and an additional rushing score, while throwing just two interceptions and taking five sacks.

Despite the individual milestones and guiding San Francisco through a flurry of early-season injuries, Purdy deflected individual praise after the Monday night win. Instead, he credited the team’s defensive unit for securing the victory during a difficult second-half performance.

“Obviously, offensively and for myself in the second half, it’s tough just to do what we did. Three-and-outs and there were some plays where I could have been better getting the ball out and what not instead of taking some sacks,” Purdy told reporters postgame. “For our defense to do what they did at the end, that was really impressive.”

The 49ers’ defense held firm late in the contest to preserve the six-point margin against Washington, keeping San Francisco’s undefeated record intact as the team navigates early roster challenges and injuries.
