Yankees sign Peter Strzelecki for Triple-A bullpen

The New York Yankees have added right-hander Peter Strzelecki to a minor league contract, assigning him to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre after a brief stint earlier this season with the Milwaukee Brewers.

The New York Yankees didn’t land another front-line starter this time. Instead, they reached for bullpen depth—one familiar face with big-league experience and a clear path back to the majors.

New York signed right-hander Peter Strzelecki to a minor league contract and assigned him to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, a move first reported Saturday by Jon Heyman of the New York Post.

Strzelecki arrives in New York after a short run with the Milwaukee Brewers earlier this season. The 31-year-old opened 2026 at Triple-A Nashville after signing a minor league deal with Milwaukee in February. Over 16 appearances for Nashville, he posted a 4.12 ERA while allowing 10 runs, nine earned, across 19.2 innings.

Milwaukee selected his contract to the major league roster on May 16. but designated him for assignment one day later—before he appeared in a game. After clearing waivers, Strzelecki elected free agency because he had previously been outrighted during his career. His time on the open market didn’t last long; the Yankees added him as bullpen depth at Triple-A.

Although Strzelecki hasn’t pitched in the majors since 2024, he was effective in his most recent MLB action with the Cleveland Guardians. In 11 appearances that season, he finished with a 2.31 ERA and nine strikeouts over 11.2 innings.

Across 77 career major league games with the Brewers, Arizona Diamondbacks, and Guardians, Strzelecki owns a 3.44 ERA, a 1.22 WHIP, and 86 strikeouts in 83.2 innings. He also produced a 24 percent strikeout rate and an 8.4 percent walk rate during his MLB career, along with one save.

He was born in Queens and grew up in Florida. and now that experience is being plugged into a Yankees organization that wants options in the late-season bullpen shuffle. There’s a catch, though: Strzelecki is out of minor league options. That means if he’s needed on the major league roster later this season. the Yankees would have to designate him for assignment before attempting to send him back down.

For now. the immediate picture is straightforward—Scranton/Wilkes-Barre gets a veteran arm with a resume and a recent track record of keeping hitters uncomfortable. Whether he stays there. or gets pulled into New York’s bullpen mix. could hinge on how quickly the Yankees need that leverage—and what roster flexibility they’re able to keep when they do.
