Warrant issued for Brandon Aiyuk after speed video

A Northern California warrant for 49ers receiver Brandon Aiyuk’s arrest has been issued on a misdemeanor charge tied to a video in which he appeared to drive as fast as 104 mph near Levi’s Stadium.

Brandon Aiyuk’s off-field decision to post a fast-driving video has now turned into a legal matter with an active warrant behind it.

A warrant for the 49ers receiver’s arrest has been issued in Northern California. The Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office confirmed that Aiyuk is wanted on a misdemeanor charge of exhibition of speed.

The case traces back to a video Aiyuk posted to his YouTube page in December. In the footage. he could be seen reaching 104 mph at one point as he sped by Levi’s Stadium. after being caught on video hitting 104 mph while flying past the venue. The video also showed him reaching speeds of over 100 mph on Santa Clara roadways in his Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing.

Prosecutors did not offer any further comment on the case.

The record-building for this matter started after public backlash. Aiyuk later apologized on social media. posting a mea culpa that his “car content won’t come with speeding anymore!” Despite that apology. the Santa Clara Police Department launched an investigation into the video and ultimately forwarded the case to the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office on Jan. 15.

A message seeking comment from a representative for Aiyuk was not immediately returned.

The fallout sits on top of an unsettled football situation that has already strained the relationship between player and organization. Aiyuk signed a four-year, $120 million contract extension with the 49ers in August 2024. But only seven games into the 2024 season. he injured his knee and has not logged a rep in an NFL contest since.

In January. Niners general manager John Lynch told reporters that the team’s relationship with Aiyuk had gone “awry. ” adding that “it’s safe to say he’s played his last snap as a 49er.” The team has attempted to trade him. In April. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that San Francisco has “had a hard him getting ahold of him. ” making negotiations with other teams difficult.

The speed video and the warrant add a new pressure point—one that brings a misdemeanor charge into the middle of a moment already defined by uncertainty. With the Santa Clara County case moving forward and no additional comments from prosecutors. the next questions are simple and immediate: what happens when Aiyuk is located. and how this will reshape whatever remains of his timeline with the 49ers.
