CM Punk Sends Message to WWE Fans Asking About his Retirement

CM Punk has made it clear before that he is not thinking about retirement, but he is now going a step further and calling out the constant questions. After previously stating on No-Contest Wrestling that he does not see retirement happening “anytime soon,” Punk addressed the topic again in a February 24, 2026, interview with Metro UK.

This time, he admitted he is growing tired of being repeatedly asked when he plans to hang it up. The World Heavyweight Champion pointed to one legend in particular as an example of how the narrative differs for other veterans. Punk mentioned that he finds inspiration in Rey Mysterio because he feels as though nobody is constantly pestering the masked icon about his exit date.

“Rey a guy that inspires me, because I feel like nobody’s asking him, ‘Oh, hey, when you’re gonna retire?’” Punk said. He then contrasted that with his own experience, making it clear he wants the audience to slow down with the inquiries. “And I get it every other question, ‘Hey, when are you gonna retire?’ It’s like, well, slow down!”

Punk explained that he looks at Rey Mysterio as proof that longevity in the ring does not need an expiration date attached to it. He views Mysterio as a timeless performer who motivates him to keep putting on his boots and moving forward. The Second City Saint also expressed that he is genuinely enjoying this chapter of his career and is not interested in setting any artificial deadlines for himself.

“Like I look at a guy like Rey and he’s timeless, and he inspires me to put my boots on and keep going. I love the fact that I’m back and looking forward to the future,” he said. Punk even referenced legendary hockey player Gordie Howe, who competed in the NHL until he was 52 years old. “Gordie Howe played in the NHL until he was 52, and he’s Mr Hockey.”

He ended the discussion with a statement that leaves the door wide open for the future of his career. “I try not to put a time limit. I try to never say never anymore, until I’m known as Mr Wrestling,” Punk added. These comments come at a time when several top stars, including AJ Styles and John Cena, are either on farewell tours or have officially ended their in-ring journeys.

While Punk focuses on his longevity, he must first focus on his immediate future at the United Center in Chicago. This Saturday, February 28, 2026, Punk is scheduled to defend his World Heavyweight Championship against Finn Balor at the Elimination Chamber event. If he is successful in his hometown, he will move on to a match against Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 42 in Las Vegas.
