US Embassy Condemns Violence as Anti-Government Protests Continue in Tirana

The United States Embassy in Tirana has called for calm and restraint following violent clashes between demonstrators and security forces during anti-government protests.

The United States Embassy in Tirana issued a public appeal for calm and restraint on Saturday as anti-government demonstrations against Prime Minister Edi Rama entered their fifth day, marked by violent clashes between protesters and law enforcement.

“Violence, civil unrest, the physical harm of others, and property destruction are not civic engagement,” the embassy stated in a public message.

The statement followed another day of street confrontations in Tirana, where groups of demonstrators threw stones and hard objects at police officers. In response, security forces deployed tear water cannons, tear gas, and rubber bullets to disperse the crowds.

“We call on all citizens who choose to demonstrate to exercise their right to protest peacefully, without acts of violence,” the embassy added. “We urge all parties to exercise restraint and calm.”
