tvOS 27 adds AI subtitles and a refreshed Podcasts app

Apple has quietly rolled out tvOS 27 for Apple TV, bringing on-device AI subtitle generation, subtitle and on-screen text resizing through a built-in slider, a redesigned Apple Podcasts app, and smoother controls and animations. There’s also smarter pairing fo
For a platform update that arrived without much fanfare, tvOS 27 still manages to land a few changes that Apple TV viewers will actually feel. Developers can now update their Apple TVs to tvOS 27, and the headline capability is both practical and personal: subtitles generated on-device with AI.
The update adds an accessibility slider that lets users adjust the size of subtitles and other on-screen text. The chosen text size carries across all tvOS apps that support Dynamic Type. which Apple frames as a navigation win for anyone who needs larger text—especially if you wear glasses. The catch is familiar: some third-party apps, including Netflix and Prime Video, don’t support text size adjustments.
When videos don’t come with captions, tvOS 27 still has an answer. Using on-device speech recognition, the system can generate subtitles automatically while preserving user privacy. For now. that subtitle generation feature is only available in English for users in the United States and Canada. with expansion to other markets. regions. and languages planned for the future.
Beyond accessibility, tvOS 27 also brings a redesigned Apple Podcasts app and smart downloads on Apple TV—aimed at keeping listening content more seamlessly available. The company has also surfaced AppleCare coverage details inside the tvOS 27 Settings app.
Small interface improvements show up in the day-to-day feel, too. Control Center has been made more responsive, and app launch animations are now significantly smoother.
Apple is also streamlining something that can be fussy on the wrong day: pairing Made-for-iPhone hearing aids with an Apple TV. With tvOS 27, you can connect your hearing aid the way you would pair AirPods, using just a couple of clicks.
The overall message is that Apple is trying to keep tvOS fresh. even if the release doesn’t come close to the feature density of iOS 27 from WWDC 2026. For many users. though. the promise here is clear: larger text that follows you across apps. subtitles that can appear even when a video has none. and a TV experience that feels a little quicker and more polished.

So now my subtitles are AI… cool I guess? hope it doesn’t mess up names.
I saw Netflix doesn’t support the text size slider and I’m like… why bother then? My dad needs bigger text and half the apps won’t do it. Apple always half-helping people.
They say it’s on-device and privacy, but speech recognition still sounds like it’s listening to everything. Also only English in the US/Canada for now?? So what, Europe gets subtitles later? smh.
The Podcasts redesign sounds nice but I barely use it, I just want the AppleCare thing to actually be easy to find. Control Center being more responsive is cool though, my Apple TV has always been kinda sluggish. Also pairing Made-for-iPhone hearing aids like AirPods—finally, that’s the one thing my friend was struggling with.
