Trump reportedly – Donald Trump is reportedly considering attending an NBA Finals game at Madison Square Garden, with a plan that hinged on whether the Knicks would win Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Finals against the Cleveland Cavaliers.
For a franchise that lives and dies by its home building, the idea of Donald Trump in the seats at Madison Square Garden has the Knicks faithful buzzing.
The New York Times reports that Trump is “considering” attending an NBA Finals game whenever the Finals are scheduled at MSG in New York City. The timing matters, because the report also says he had planned to attend Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Finals if the Knicks had lost Game 4.
That contingency didn’t happen. The Knicks instead completed a sweep of the Cleveland Cavaliers, winning Game 4 by 37 points.
Trump’s schedule has been packed during his presidency, but he has found time for major sports moments. He attended Super Bowl 59 in New Orleans, Louisiana, in February 2025. He was also at a New York Yankees game, the Daytona 500, and the US Open men’s final.
Next month, he will celebrate his birthday when UFC holds its Freedom 250 event at the White House, with the octagon set up on the South Lawn.
At the same time, the White House did not respond to the New York Times’ request for comment. Madison Square Garden, through a spokesperson, said it was not aware of Trump’s potential plans. The spokesperson added that “the president — no matter who holds the office — is always welcome at the venue.”.
The possibility of Trump showing up also lands in a moment when his Knicks support is already on record. After the report surfaced. it pointed to his comments about the franchise to TalkRadio 77 WABC. where he said he was still a fan of the team and that he believed Knicks owner James Dolan deserved the current success.
“I think he’s a really nice guy, and he’s entitled to a good team because he’s suffered a little bit,” Trump said.
The connection runs beyond fandom. As the New York Times notes, Dolan is friends with Trump. Dolan has donated to Trump’s past political campaigns, and he also got married at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago club.
