Trump Announces He’s Using ‘Slush Fund’ To Send $90 ‘Check’ to Millions of Americans

President Donald Trump announced late Friday night that he is tapping a “slush fund” to send money to more than 20 million senior citizens.

The president’s pledge comes just over a month before the midterm elections, where Republicans are expected to lose their majority in the House and possibly the Senate. Last month, Trump claimed he would give $5,000 to every adult U.S. citizen if Republicans keep control of the House and Senate. He has dubiously insisted he does not need congressional approval to give the money, which raises the question as to why he is not doing so before the election.

In a Truth Social post, Trump touted a new inducement that is a pittance compared to the $5,000 figure. He said the money would be drawn from the Medicare Improvement Fund, which he termed a “slush fund”:

I am pleased to announce that my Administration will, immediately, begin sending “Checks” of nearly $100 to over 20 MILLION wonderful Seniors to help pay for their Medicare Part B premiums, which we have already reduced by significant amounts. This money will come from the Medicare Improvement Fund, a pointless “Slush Fund” that has only been used by Dumocrats in Congress to pay for the Waste, Fraud, and Abuse for their Special Interest friends, and drive up Healthcare costs. We are finally using this Fund, along with my Most Favored Nations Deals, to substantially LOWER costs for our Seniors. I pledged to protect and preserve Medicare and Social Security, which were on the verge of RUIN by Joe Biden, who foolishly and maliciously let tens of millions of Illegal Aliens into our Country, and we are doing just that for America’s Seniors. This is separate from the equally substantial Refund “Checks” we are sending to One Million Americans who were overcharged for their Unaffordable Care Act plans by Joe Biden.

According to a White House press release, “the federal government will be making one-time payments of $90 per person to help more than 20 million enrollees pay for their Medicare Part B premiums.”

“Payments will be made from the Medicare Improvement Fund, which has been given $2 billion by Congress for the purposes of making improvements to the Medicare fee-for-service program, but has never before been utilized,” the release continued.

It added that most recipients would receive the payment via direct deposit early this month.
