The National Weather Service said a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located near Romulus. moving northeast at 20 mph. The agency warned that the dangerous storm would be near Taylor. Romulus. Dearborn and Trenton at around 2:25 p.m. with the timing shifting slightly as it moved: Wayndotte at around 2:30 p.m. and Grosse Ile at around 2:40 p.m.
Several other communities were listed as impacted by the storm, including Brownstown Township, Melvindale, New Boston, Riverview, Ecorse, Allen Park, River Rouge, Woodhaven, Lincoln Park and Southgate.
The affected roadways were also spelled out. a detail that can matter when people are deciding whether to travel or head for shelter. The warning included I-75 between mile markers 32 and 47; I-275 between mile markers 12 and 18; I-94 between mile markers 195 and 207; I-96 near mile marker 192; and M-10 near mile marker 1.
