Sirianni closes Brown chapter, praises Eagles room

Nick Sirianni says A.J. Brown’s time with the Eagles—marked by two Super Bowls and multiple Pro Bowl and All-Pro seasons—was “a good run,” while quickly turning attention to the players currently in Philadelphia after Brown’s official trade to the Patriots.

For weeks, Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni had to answer questions about A.J. Brown’s future in Philadelphia. Then the trade became official, and Brown’s chapter with the team is done.

Speaking to the media for the first time since the deal went down. Sirianni looked back on what Brown accomplished during his time with the Eagles. He didn’t overcomplicate it. “I would say there was a lot of good years here. and done a lot of good things with AJ here — two times in the Super Bowl. I think he was [an] All-Pro multiple times. Pro Bowl multiple times. ” Sirianni said. “So, I would say it was a good run.”.

But the head coach’s comments moved fast from the past to the present. He pivoted to the wide receiver room he believes the Eagles are building right now—starting with DeVonta Smith. Sirianni said Smith has had “a really good offseason” and noted that he’s in the middle of “five good years of being an Eagle. ” calling his production “very. very productive.”.

Sirianni also pointed to what he expects the team can unlock in Smith. emphasizing the idea that extra chances matter for a player who has worked for them. “And excited that he’s going to get extra opportunities that he works so hard to… that people convert that. Really excited about Makai and where he is this offseason and just his ability to catch the football, his toughness. I think that’s a great addition to that room.”.

The coach then named several other players in the mix: Dontayvion Wicks, Hollywood Brown, Elijah Moore, Darius Cooper, and Johnny Wilson.

When asked about how the trade decision was handled, Sirianni described a tight working relationship inside the front office. He said he and General Manager Howie Roseman discuss everything. “What a good teammate that I have with Howie Roseman to be able to go to battle with,” Sirianni said. “So many things that [Brown] did that [were] good for our football team and always will wish him the best of luck. But, like I said, really excited about the guys in that room and where we are. But this is a team game. to your question. and every decision that I make and decisions that Howie makes. we talk to each other about it.”.

Brown is headed to the Patriots, and Sirianni has made the message clear: the Eagles aren’t pretending the move doesn’t change something. They’re just turning their focus—immediately—toward the group that’s staying in Philadelphia.

  1. Why does he keep talking like it’s “a good run” like he didn’t lose one of the best WRs. DeVonta Smith about to carry now? I don’t see how Wicks and Elijah Moore fix that.

  2. I guess Patriots got the receipts. But wasn’t this whole trade supposed to be “already decided” weeks ago? Sirianni sounded confident and then rattled off like 12 names like that automatically replaces Brown lol.

  3. Did he just say Smith gets “extra opportunities” like that’s guaranteed? I feel like Eagles fans always say “we’re excited about the room” and then the room still can’t catch when it matters. Also Hollywood Brown?? Elijah Moore?? Johnny Wilson?? Idk, sounds like cope to me but maybe I missed the part where they still have chemistry.
