Penalty kicks power FC Dallas to 2-1 win

Logan Farrington and Santiago Moreno converted first-half penalty kicks to send FC Dallas to a 2-1 victory over the Colorado Rapids on Saturday night in Commerce City, Colorado.
COMMERCE CITY, Colo. — Logan Farrington didn’t wait long to make his mark. In the 12th minute, he scored for the sixth time this season, giving FC Dallas a 1-0 lead after being fouled in the box by Colorado Rapids midfielder Paxten Aaronson.
The Rapids didn’t have to search for an answer. Aaronson scored in the following minute—his fourth goal of the campaign—to level the match 1-1. Georgi Minoungou and Wayne Frederick had assists on Dallas’s first sequence.
Moreno took control of the rest of the half. In the 45th minute, Santiago Moreno converted a penalty kick to put Dallas back in front, sending the team into halftime with a 2-1 advantage. The second spot kick was awarded after Minoungou fouled Ran Binyamin.
Dallas goalkeeper Jonathan Sirois made five saves in his second start for the club. The 7-4-4 record includes a significant piece of momentum for Dallas. which began the day in fifth place in the Western Conference. After the win. Dallas reached a milestone of sorts as well: it was the fourth victory in its last five matches.
Colorado’s goalkeeper, Nico Hansen, had a tough night, with no saves in his sixth start this season and the 16th of his career.
The victory also carried weight in the bigger picture of the matchup. Dallas leads the all-time series 37-30-20.
For Colorado, the week had already brought a kind of breakthrough. The Rapids advanced to the U.S. Open Cup semifinals for the first time since 1999 by beating the San Jose Earthquakes 2-0 in the quarterfinals on Wednesday.
With the match finished, attention turns to the league schedule. The league takes a break for the FIFA World Cup and will return to action on July 16.

Wait so Paxten Aaronson fouled and then scored?? That’s kinda wild. Also Dallas being in 5th place didn’t last long anyway.
I read that Nico Hansen had no saves but how is that even possible if they said Dallas was making chances? Like did the Rapids just stand there? Also penalty kicks feel rigged sometimes, sorry.
Commerce City = Colorado doing Colorado stuff. lol. The part about U.S. Open Cup semis since 1999 is crazy though, like why now. And Sirois made five saves but still it was 2-1 so idk what the defense was doing.
