A very special thank you to all the fireman of North Saanich and Sidney who responded to the garage fire at our home in North Saanich on May 8. Your quick response contained the fire to the garage and prevented it from engulfing the whole home. The brave firemen on the front line of extinguishing the fire demonstrated remarkable experience, professionalism and ingenuity in the very challenging situation of just getting into the fire-damaged locked-down garage in the first place. And then quickly extinguishing the
fire. The help, compassion, care and empathy shown to me by all that night was very much appreciated as I stood traumatized on the cold sidewalk in my pajamas and socks. And thank you for the extra special care shown in seeking late night accommodation, finding clothing and saving vehicles, frozen food and other personal items as well as organizing the securing of the home. It was one of the worst nights of my life and you were all there for me! And to the
mayor and council of North Saanich and Sidney I want to say that you have fire departments that you can all be very proud of. Again, to all the brave people who attended the fire, and helped me through the whole ordeal, a heartfelt thank you. Ashley O’Sullivan North Saanich

That’s honestly really touching, but I’m surprised the garage was locked down? Like how does that even happen. Glad nobody lost the whole house though.
Wait so they rescued frozen food and vehicles too? I feel like everyone always focuses on the fire but the real issue is the “locked-down garage” part… like did the homeowner lock it? Not sure why the firefighters had to deal with that at all.
This is nice and all, but I always worry this kind of ‘special thank you’ stuff means the city/mayor is avoiding bigger questions like building code or smoke detectors. Also pajamas and socks on the sidewalk sounds like a viral story more than a real emergency lol. Either way I’m glad they saved the house.
