New Father Felix Rosenqvist Brings Baby Stella to Indy

Felix Rosenqvist arrives at the Indianapolis 500 with his newborn daughter Stella—born May 4—shaping how he views risk, purpose, and the race itself, even as he returns for his eighth start with a history of near-misses.

When Felix Rosenqvist walks into Indianapolis Motor Speedway this weekend, he’s not just carrying the usual mix of preparation and expectation. He’s carrying something softer and heavier: a three-week-old daughter.

Rosenqvist says the birth of his daughter, Stella, has reshaped what the Indianapolis 500 means to him, turning a race he once treated as a quest into something more personal—an experience that brings emotions he didn’t know he had.

Stella was born on May 4 at St. Vincent Carmel Hospital outside Indianapolis. Rosenqvist and his wife Emille, who married in Sweden on Sept. 21, 2024, after getting engaged in Tanzania in November 2023, announced the birth in a joint Instagram post. “On May 4th, 2026 our little Stella was born and our hearts doubled in size,” they wrote. “Dad has never been more proud.”.

Rosenqvist said he normally prefers to separate racing from his private life. but this is a moment that has reached past that boundary. In comments carried in a Felix Racing press release. he said. “Normally I prefer to separate racing from my private life. but this is just such a big moment for us.” He added that fatherhood has given him “a sense of purpose and perspective” and that he believes it will do him “good on the track as well.”.

The shift registered quickly at IMS. Rosenqvist topped Fast Friday speed charts alongside Scott McLaughlin, then described a change that happened faster than he expected. In an interview with WISH-TV’s Angela Moryan. he said. “Everything else kind of pales in comparison for sure.” He continued that even when he was present for the birth. it still “triggering emotions that you didn’t know you had. ” adding. “It definitely gives you perspective in life.”.

For all the performance talk that surrounds Indy, the emotional reality seems to be taking center stage. Teammate and four-time 500 champion Helio Castroneves, who co-owns Meyer Shank Racing, put it in blunt, unmistakable terms to WISH-TV. “The first nine months, forget about it. You don’t even exist,” Castroneves said. “But after that, you’re going to fall in love. It is the best feeling in the world. It’s not like when you win a race.”.

Rosenqvist goes into Sunday with a deep Indy history—and a record built as much on near-misses as on momentum. He is making his eighth Indy 500 start. The 34-year-old from Värnamo. Sweden. won what Honda calls the Formula 3 “Grand Slam. ” taking the Macau Grand Prix. the Grand Prix de Pau. the Masters of Formula 3. and the 2015 FIA Formula 3 European Championship. He then posted three Formula E wins and made his IndyCar debut in 2019. when he was named Series Rookie of the Year.

At Indianapolis, the pattern has been painful: Rosenqvist finished fourth in both 2022 and 2025, crashed out while running in contention in 2023, and lost a strong 2024 run to mechanical failure. Last May, he posted the fastest single lap of the entire Month of May at 234.176 mph.

Even with all that baggage. he says he believes this year is different in a way that goes beyond car setup. In a Felix Racing race preview. Rosenqvist said. “The Indy 500 is such a special race. ” and that he now believes it is “one of our strongest races on the calendar.” He added that he feels he has “the experience. the knowledge and everything in place.”.

Fatherhood has also connected him to a version of racing culture he didn’t fully grasp before. In remarks carried by WISH-TV. he said. “There’s like this club that you can only access once you have a child.” He described how the conversations shift—talking about things he says he hadn’t discussed with these guys before—then said. “But it’s cool. Everyone’s been very supportive.”.

Whatever happens on Sunday, he says the race already feels different. For the first time, Rosenqvist says Indianapolis no longer feels like the biggest thing in his life. In the same WISH-TV interview. he said. “I have 500s that I’ve probably completely put behind me for different reasons. ” and that this one “will definitely stay with me forever.”.

  1. I saw this headline and thought the baby was gonna be on the pace car 😳 but apparently she’s just… there? Still, hope he’s not stressing too much. Racing plus new dad nerves sounds dangerous.

  2. “Near-misses” again right? Like he’s been close for years and now he has a baby so he’s gonna win or whatever. Honestly I don’t buy the whole ‘fatherhood gives perspective’ thing, he’s still doing the same 200mph job. But congrats I guess.

  3. Okay wait—born May 4, 3 weeks old, but the Indy 500 is this weekend… so is the baby literally traveling already? Maybe it’s just photos and not like actually bringing the newborn in the pit lane. Either way, it’s sweet but I can’t stop thinking about risk like he said. My cousin says the hospital St. Vincent Carmel is like the same one everybody uses here so idk, just seems like Indy people always have drama around race day.
