Marte’s 9th-inning blast stuns Giants 5-3

Ketel Marte’s – Trailing 3-1 entering the ninth, the Arizona Diamondbacks scored twice off the San Francisco Giants and got a game-winning three-run homer from Ketel Marte with two outs to win 5-3 on Tuesday night.
PHOENIX — With two outs in the ninth inning and the Arizona Diamondbacks staring at a 3-1 deficit, Ketel Marte lined up the second pitch he saw and turned it into the kind of swing that changes a night.
His three-run homer sailed over the left field fence, and Marte tossed his bat while looking back toward the Diamondbacks dugout before rounding the bases, lifting Arizona to a 5-3 win over the San Francisco Giants on Tuesday night.
The comeback started with a moment earlier: Adrian Del Castillo delivered a two-out RBI single to cut the deficit to 3-2. Ryan Waldschmidt then reached on catcher’s interference, setting the stage for Marte.
San Francisco had been doing its job through stretches. forcing the game along with bullpen work that included inning-ending double plays in both the seventh and eighth. But the ninth unraveled. Giants manager Tony Vitello made a pitching change before the decisive at-bat, replacing Caleb Kilian with lefty Matt Gage.
Arizona didn’t take long to make it interesting, either. The D-backs scored once in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead after Corbin Carroll hit a triple into the left-center gap and scored on an error. As Carroll rounded first, his helmet flew off when Luis Arraez’s throw to third bounced off Carroll’s head. The 25-year-old got up and sprinted home. He walked slowly to the dugout and briefly went down into the tunnel to get checked out. but stayed in the game.
The Giants answered in the second. Rafael Devers and Willy Adames hit solo shots on back-to-back pitches for a 2-1 lead. Daniel Susac then added an RBI double later in the second to make it 3-1.
On the mound, Landen Roupp gave up one run on seven hits and struck out three for San Francisco. Arizona right-hander Ryne Nelson settled down after the rough second, allowing three runs on eight hits and two walks over seven innings. He struck out three.
The result left Arizona needing just one more win to complete the sweep: the D-backs will go for the three-game sweep on Wednesday. Arizona improved to 24-23, jumping above .500 for the first time since May 1.
Wednesday’s pitching matchup has Merrill Kelly (3-3, 5.91 ERA) for Arizona against Tyler Mahle (1-5, 5.59) for San Francisco.

9th inning magic?? Marte really said nope to the Giants lol.
So Carroll’s helmet flew off because of some throw and then they just… kept playing?? That’s wild. Also Giants had a 3-1 lead and still lost, sounds like bullpen blew it.
Wait who hit the homer again, was it Del Castillo? I swear I saw a highlight where it was like a 2-out thing then suddenly 5-3?? Also Tony Vitello pulling the pitcher… I mean managers always do that at the worst time.
Gotta love how the article mentions catcher’s interference like that’s normal then next thing you know Marte’s hitting a 3-run shot. Giants had double plays in 7th and 8th and then one pitching change in the 9th and it all falls apart. I’m not saying it’s rigged or anything but that’s some real bad luck timing. Also that helmet thing with Arraez’s throw… sounds like the whole game turned on one weird bounce.
