In Las Vegas on Saturday, Kelsey Plum didn’t just put points on the board—she carried the Los Angeles Sparks into the kind of win that feels like a statement, then watched it get stamped by one of basketball’s biggest names.
Plum’s night ended with the Sparks beating the Aces on the road, 101-95. The superstar guard finished with 38 points in 37 minutes, adding nine assists and four rebounds. Dearica Hamby and Cameron Brink scored 16 points each. with Magic Johnson singling out Brink’s impact when he posted about the game. Ariel Atkins added 11 points, while Rae Burrell and Erica Wheeler each scored 10. Wheeler also hit a big three-pointer down the stretch to help seal the win.
Johnson’s message didn’t stop with the headline numbers. He emphasized that the Sparks did it without a major piece of their lineup: Nneka Ogwumike did not play tonight. In the same post. Johnson said he was impressed with Brink’s play and that she would be a key part of the team having a good season.
Plum’s performance has come at the start of the 2026 season when the Sparks are rounding into form and winning back-to-back games. After finishing with a season-high 38-point haul against Las Vegas, Plum spoke about what she wants next—goals that go beyond simply scoring.
“My dream would be to go 50-40-90. I know that’s going to be tough,” Plum said. “I didn’t know the free-throw’s were going to be kicking my a** right now.”
For Plum, the target is clear: 50% from the field, 40% from behind the 3-point line, and 90% from the free-throw line. So far, she’s pacing toward that standard. Still. her season free-throw percentage sits at 82.9%. and the comment about how free throws have been “kicking” her reflects the part of her game she knows she’ll have to sharpen.
With the momentum of a road win in their pocket—and the recognition that followed it—Los Angeles turns quickly to its next challenge. The Sparks are set for a road game against the Mystics on Friday, May 29th at 7:30PM ET.
