Mackenzie Shirilla Calls for Kim Kardashian as Lawyer

Mackenzie Shirilla is already locked behind bars, but in a call from the Cuyahoga County Corrections Center in Ohio, her mind keeps circling one thing: getting out—before 2037, when she would be eligible for parole.
The 21-year-old killer driver. featured in the new Netflix documentary *The Crash*. is serving two concurrent sentences of 15 years to life after killing 20-year-old Dominic Russo and 19-year-old Davion Flanagan. The conviction followed a July 2022 crash in which Shirilla intentionally drove 100 mph into a brick wall. She maintains she never intended to kill her boyfriend and friend. says she has no memory of the fatal crash. and has attributed the episode to POTS—a chronic condition that can cause dizziness and fainting.
By Friday, the call had resurfaced, bringing fresh attention to her ongoing fight in court. Shirilla has tried to appeal her case three times, but all attempts have failed. Still. on the phone. she fixated on a celebrity connection—suggesting Kim Kardashian might have seen the coverage around her case. including an interview with Dominic’s dad.
“Well, maybe Kim Kardashian’s seen,” Shirilla says on the undated call obtained by *People*. The other person replies, “Yeah, maybe Kim will, now that it’s, like, all over. I was like, I mean, that’s the only thing that might be good about the whole media thing. Maybe Kim will see it.”
Shirilla then turns her hopes into a direct request. She tells the caller, “I don’t know. You have to figure out because I’m real nervous and I want Kim Kardashian to be my lawyer.”
The other person responds by highlighting Kardashian’s efforts on behalf of people who may have been wrongfully convicted or who have shown rehabilitation in prison. “She works hard to help innocent people get out of jail,” the caller says, adding, “We’re gonna have her get you out.”
To persuade Kardashian in a way that’s unmistakably tailored to modern celebrity culture, Shirilla even tries a brand-and-wallet angle: “Tell her I buy all her SKIMS and I only wear SKIMS.”
There’s one major snag in the plan. Kardashian isn’t an attorney yet. She can’t practice law because she hasn’t passed the California bar exam. even though Shirilla says Kardashian has been pursuing a legal career for several years. In other words. Kardashian’s role could only be advocacy—pushing for release—but she’s reportedly not interested in this particular case.
A source close to Kim Kardashian told *TMZ* on Friday night that the SKIMS founder supports only people she believes were wrongfully convicted and individuals in prison who have demonstrated rehabilitation and deserve a second chance. According to the insider, Shirilla doesn’t fit either of those categories for Kardashian.
So while Shirilla’s call makes her desire painfully clear—she’s “real nervous” and wants Kardashian by her side—it also underscores the reality she may be forced to face: celebrity influence doesn’t automatically translate into legal power. especially when the person she’s asking for reportedly isn’t on board.
