Comedian and social media star Laura Clery says she was crushed beneath a 600-pound refrigerator in a freak home accident, pinned against a counter and unable to move or breathe until firefighters rescued her.
Laura Clery didn’t waste time turning a terrifying moment into a message of thanks—still pinned under the weight of a 600-pound refrigerator at home, she’s now telling viewers exactly how close it came to disaster.
In a video shared from inside an ambulance, the comedian and social media star wore a neck brace and joked with firefighters as they worked to free her. “So I was crushed by a 600-pound fridge … is that correct?” she asked.
After she was rescued, Clery praised the emergency crew on Instagram, calling them “actual heroes.” She thanked the firefighters who, according to her, broke through her garage door and lifted the massive appliance off her.
Clery said the accident happened earlier this week while she was home alone with her two children. She described the refrigerator suddenly slamming into her, pinning her against the counter and leaving her unable to move or breathe.
During the ordeal, her ex-husband, Stephen Hilton, said Clery sent him a frantic text that read, “I’m dying. Come by now now now.”
Clery later pointed to what she believes caused the refrigerator to tip. She said the appliance had not been properly mounted into the wall, and she blamed the installation on contractor negligence. She also said her 7-year-old son accidentally caused the fridge to tip while climbing on it.
In spite of the severity of the incident, Clery said she suffered no broken bones. She called herself “so lucky” that her children were unharmed, even as she continues to process what happened in the home where it all occurred.
