On Sunday, May 24, Katherine Legge will try to pull off “The Double,” attempting the Indy 500 and the NASCAR Coca-Cola 600 in the same day. The 45-year-old British driver—first female and first foreign-born to attempt the feat—has a tight schedule spanning Ind

When Katherine Legge lines up in Indianapolis, it won’t just be another race day. For the 45-year-old driver, Sunday, May 24 carries the kind of pressure reserved for rare milestones: attempting “The Double” by racing two of motorsport’s biggest events on the same day.

Legge is set to become the sixth driver to attempt the motor sports double—racing in IndyCar’s Indy 500 and NASCAR’s Coca-Cola 600 on the same day. She will do it as the first female driver to attempt “The Double” and the first foreign-born driver. Her day begins in Indiana at Indianapolis Motor Speedway with IndyCar’s Indianapolis 500—often billed as “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing”—before she heads to Charlotte. North Carolina. for NASCAR’s longest race at 600 miles.

The feat is brutal in its simplicity: roughly 1,100 miles behind the wheel of two different vehicles on two different tracks. The Indy 500 and the Coca-Cola 600 are separated by distance, timing, and a full shift in racing style—one circuit language after another, with no room for a slow start.

Katherine Legge will attempt to complete two major auto races on the same day Sunday: IndyCar’s Indianapolis 500 and NASCAR’s Coca-Cola 600. In total. that’s a combined 1. 100 miles behind the wheel across two states—Indiana and North Carolina—at Indianapolis Motor Speedway and Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Only five other drivers in auto racing history have ever attempted the rare feat: John Andretti, Tony Stewart, Robby Gordon and Kurt Busch. Stewart, in 2001, is the only driver to complete all 1,100 miles, finishing sixth in the Indy 500 and third in the Coca-Cola 600.

The Indianapolis 500 kicks off at 12:45 p.m. ET at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, with the 110th running broadcast on Fox and a pre-race show beginning at 10 a.m. ET. The race can also be streamed on Fox Sports, Fox One, Fubo and IndyCar Live, along with the IndyCar app.

Legge’s starting spot is set for the 110th running of the Indianapolis 500: she will start 26th on Row 9 in the No. 11 HMD Motorsports/A.J. Foyt Racing Chevrolet.

By the evening, the schedule shifts sharply to NASCAR. The Coca-Cola 600 is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. ET Sunday at Charlotte Motor Speedway in Concord, North Carolina. There is no national TV broadcast for Sunday’s race. but Amazon Prime Video is broadcasting it—marking the first of five consecutive NASCAR Cup Series races on the streamer. Prime will also air a pre-race show at 5 p.m. ET.

In Charlotte, Legge will start 37th in the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway in the No. 78 Live Fast Motorsports Chevrolet.

Between the green flag at Indianapolis and the start in Charlotte, the double requires an unusually direct route. Legge will begin her day in Indianapolis for the 110th running of the Indy 500. As soon as her time in Indy is done—pending any possible weather delays—she will board a helicopter at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. then transfer to a private plane to fly to Charlotte. North Carolina. Another helicopter will take her from the Concord–Padgett Regional Airport to the infield at Charlotte Motor Speedway for NASCAR’s Coca-Cola 600.

Every detail of the day is built around speed: the timing of the two starts. the lack of national TV for the NASCAR race. and the multi-leg travel plan that moves her from the oval at Indianapolis to the infield at Charlotte. For Legge. it’s not just about qualifying—it’s about surviving a full racing day stretched across two series. two states. and two very different worlds of competition.

  1. So she’s doing Indy 500 AND NASCAR back to back same day? That sounds fake unless she has like robot reflexes.

  2. Wait is this the woman from Britain? Good for her I guess but like… how does she not crash in Charlotte after Indy? My brain can’t even do two errands.

  3. John Andretti Tony Stewart Robby Gordon Kurt Busch… so basically only famous dudes right? But I saw somewhere Tony Stewart did it faster like in a day and won or something. Idk if this article is leaving out the finish part.

  4. The pressure reserved for rare milestones?? She’s 45 too which is wild. Also 1,100 miles sounds like she’s driving to the grocery store and back like 20 times, and then switching cars mid-stress??
