EGOT-winning star Jennifer Hudson visits Charlestown Boys & Girls Club

Local News

“J Hud in the Club,” the members chanted.

The superstar singer and actress Jennifer Hudson spent time visiting members at Charlestown’s Boys & Girls Club to celebrate the fifth season premiere of her talk show on WHDH-Channel 7.

The EGOT winner — who belongs to the Boys & Girls Club network herself from her upbringing in Chicago — stayed much longer than planned at the Sept. 9 visit, a spokesperson for the Boys & Girls Club said.

Hudson was recommended to visit the Charlestown site, formally known as the Grousbeck Club of Charlestown, because of the Boys & Girls Club’s ties to WHDH and the Ansin family, which owns the station, according to the Boys & Girls Club spokesperson.

The organization shared a video on Facebook capturing members chanting “J Hud in the Club.”

“An incredible day of dancing, singing, laughs and snow-cones was had by all,” the post’s caption reads. “A huge THANK YOU to Jennifer, her team and WHDH-channel 7 for creating a truly unforgettable day for our members.”

A segment documenting the celebration is expected to broadcast next week, the Boys & Girls Club said.

The “Jennifer Hudson Show” launched its fifth season on Monday and broadcasts weekdays at 3 p.m.
