EDF hands EV drivers £50 if unlocked before midnight

EDF is giving out £50 if drivers do one thing before midnight. EDF is giving electric vehicle (EV) drivers £50 cashback – but the deadline is looming. New and existing customers have until 11:59pm tonight to unlock the credit which is equivalent to around 2,500 miles or four months of free electric driving. Joe Souto, director of retail at EDF, said: “With petrol prices currently averaging 158p a litre, many drivers are feeling the cost of every journey more than ever. “We’re giving drivers £50
EV credit when they sign up to one of EDF’s EV tariffs, helping them go further for less this spring with over 4 months of free driving. is low. FreePhase customers got 37 hours of free electricity in the last fortnight. The FreePhase Dynamic electricity tariff has three pricing rates that reflect daily wholesale energy prices. The three-time bands: green (super off peak, 11pm-6am), amber (off peak 6am-4pm and 7pm-11pm), red (peak 4-7pm), means customers can adapt their electricity use to make the most of cheaper rates. And customers can sign-up for May’s Sunday Saver from now until Sunday 3rd May at 11.59pm, with the challenge starting on Monday 4th May. Sunday
Saver participants can use their earned free electricity on Sunday 17th, 24th, and 31st May, and Sunday 7th June. To take part, customers will need a working smart meter for their electricity supply that is sending EDF readings every 30 minutes. Progress can be tracked on Energy Hub via MyAccount, where users can access a personalised view of their household’s energy use.

Wait is this only UK people? Because I didn’t even know EV credits were a thing.
So they’re giving £50 if you unlock it before midnight… but like where do you even unlock it? I swear these apps make it harder on purpose. Also 2,500 miles for four months?? that seems too good to be true.
My cousin said it’s basically free charging for 4 months but you have to be on the right tariff and have a smart meter sending readings every 30 minutes, which is like… most people? Unless EDF wants you to swap meters or something. Idk the whole “green amber red” thing sounds like a traffic light, not electricity.
Midnight deadline is wild, like what if you’re at work and forget?? I feel like they’re just doing this to trap people into contracts. Also why does it mention petrol prices in a story about EVs, are they secretly admitting gas is still cheaper? Smells fishy to me.
