Doug McCain Dies Suddenly at 66, Family Confirms

Doug McCain, the eldest son of the late Senator John McCain, has died at 66. Meghan McCain confirmed the news and shared a tribute, while the cause of death has not been made public.

Doug McCain’s passing landed with sudden force for a family that has already lived through the kind of public loss that never really fades. On Sunday, Meghan McCain confirmed that her brother, Doug McCain, has died at 66.

In an emotional message shared online. Meghan wrote. “I am deeply saddened to share the news of my brother Doug McCain’s sudden passing.” She described Doug as “a truly wonderful. joyful man. ” adding that he brought “humor. fun and great conversation to every room.” Meghan said she would “always cherish” the memories she shared with him.

Doug carried part of the McCain military legacy. He served as a Navy pilot for years, and he was the son of Carol Shepp, John McCain’s first wife. After John and Carol married in 1965, Doug was later adopted by the late Arizona senator.

He is survived by his wife, Ashley; children Caroline and Shepp; daughters-in-law Ellie and Emily; his grandson Teddy; his mother Carol; and many others from the McCain family.

For John McCain, Doug’s death arrives against a backdrop of a long, public farewell. John McCain, the longtime Arizona senator and 2008 Republican presidential nominee, died in 2018 after a battle with brain cancer. Doug was 66.
