Disney Channel’s 43 best characters, from last

From Bridgit Mendler’s Olivia White to Brenda Song’s London Tipton, the Disney Channel lineup is packed with characters we still talk about—whether we’re rooting for love interests, quoting catchphrases, or replaying favorite mischief.
If you grew up with the Disney Channel, you probably still have at least one character you can’t let go of—whether it’s because of their humor, their heart, or the way they made you feel seen when life felt weird.
This ranking swings from the “last on the list” crowd to the winner. and it’s stuffed with familiar names: Hannah Montana’s band member Jesse. Lemonade Mouth’s Olivia White (portrayed by Bridgit Mendler). and The Suite Life of Zack and Cody’s Cody Martin (Cole Sprouse). plus plenty more. It’s “very scientific. ” the list insists—though it’s more fun to treat it like a nostalgia-driven debate with receipts.
Jesse is pinned near the bottom, not least because many people wanted Miley to end up with Jake.
Olivia White lands with a gentler vibe—shy and retreating in Lemonade Mouth, but exceptionally talented and kind.
From there. the rankings move through the kinds of character contrasts Disney became famous for: Cody Martin. described as often selfish but able to be sweet; Chad Dylan Cooper (Sterling Knight) on Sonny With a Chance. a selfish. entitled TV star who sometimes has softer moments; and Liv Rooney (high-strung and high-maintenance) versus Maddie. “the total opposite—a chill girl. ” whose bond with her sister is often touching.
Selena Gomez’s Alex Russo on Wizards of Waverly Place is credited with sassiness and courage, but the list also calls her self-absorbed.
Then come the fan-favorite duo dynamics: Bella Thorne as sassy CeCe Jones on Shake It Up; Dove Cameron playing two VERY different twins in Liv and Maddie, with a slight preference for high-strung popstar Liv.
Cadet Kelly’s Hilary Duff is labeled “totally endearing,” while Dog With a Blog leans into the show’s charm through Stan—described as a sarcastic talking pet with hilarious opinions that never failed to entertain and “super cute” energy.
High School Musical keeps tugging at hearts for Gabriella (Vanessa Hudgens), who the list describes as kind, talented, and knowing what she wanted.
Lemonade Mouth: Original Movie takes it to rock ‘n’ roll territory with Stella Yamada, the guitarist portrayed by real-life singer Hayley Kiyoko.
And Jessie gives the list its absolute darling: Zuri Ross (Skai Jackson), so adorable she “could get away with murder” in the chaotic Ross family.
Austin & Ally brings the chaotic-but-loveable energy in the form of Austin Moon (Ross Lynch). described as irresponsible and chaotic. plus a perfect foil to Ally (Laura Marano). Trish De La Rosa (Raini Rodriguez) is another standout—winning audiences with her devil-may-care attitude and the hilarious ways she manages to get fired from every job she’s hired for “in record time.”.
Ravi Ross (Karan Brar) on Jessie is framed as an adorable nerd and scaredy cat, and that makes his dynamic with sister Zuri Ross—called a precocious troublemaker—feel even more adorable.
For the “next-gen” crowd, Ally Dawson (portrayed by Laura Marano) is praised as a talented songwriter and a hilarious, responsible foil to Austin’s chaotic energy—an Ally some people may have missed even if they were more familiar with Lizzie McGuire and That’s So Raven.
High School Musical: The Musical: The Series adds Olivia Rodrigo’s Nini Salazar-Roberts.
Even Stevens gets its own throwback spotlight: Shia LaBeouf stars as Louis Stevens, the mischievous, prank-loving youngest child, on the Disney Channel comedy series Even Stevens from 2000 to 2003.
The list also points to mainstream momentum, crediting Ashley Tisdale’s mainstream success as Maddie Fitzpatrick in The Suite Life of Zack & Cody.
Kim Possible, voiced by Christy Carlson Romano, is called iconic.
Zac Efron’s Troy Bolton in Disney’s High School Musical is remembered with the line “Bet on It” set to live on forever.
And while Teddy Duncan of Good Luck Charlie—played by Bridgit Mendler—may not be Disney’s most iconic character “by quite a margin,” the list insists she’s deeply likeable: a bit of a nerd and a great big sister to Charlie, especially given the videos she made for him.
The Phineas and Ferb universe is basically a parade of personality. Phineas Flynn is described as the chief ideator with evermore out-there plans. always leaving audiences asking. “Hey Phineas. whatcha dooooin’?” Ferb Fletcher is credited with sharp. charming British-accent lines “as sharp as a tack.”.
Dr. Heinz Doofenshmirtz is framed as a comedic machine of awkward bumbling—an incompetent scientist who couldn’t even be a bad guy properly because he’s “too nice deep down.” Perry the Platypus is remembered as a pet platypus who moonlights as a secret agent.
The list also nods to Wendy Wu: Homecoming Warrior, calling it a “2006 masterpiece” and insisting anyone who hasn’t seen it is missing out. The story is described as a high school girl who finds out she’s destined to save the world from evil, starring Brenda Song.
Hannah Montana returns in a big way—because the show’s core is the character Miley Stewart (Miley Cyrus), a normal student as much as a pop star, with “silly antics” that the list clearly can’t quit.
It also reminds readers there was no Hannah Montana without the villain energy of Rico (Moises Arias), described as straight-up evil, even if the show was still fun.
Jackson Stewart (Jason Earles) is given a softer landing: big-brother-ish in that he gives Miley a hard time and lets her take the fall, but “always a good guy in the end,” with slapstick duo energy with Rico that’s “hilarious.”
And Dolly Parton is folded into the mix as “Aunt Dolly,” Miley’s godmother in the world of the show (and in real life, the list notes)—styled simply, yet treated like someone you’d adore even if you had a heart of stone.
The Suite Life of Zack & Cody has Mr. Moseby, who gets “deep sympathy” because he’s just trying to manage a giant luxury hotel while foiling twin-instigated mischief.
Lizzie McGuire’s circle stays strong: Miranda Sanchez (Lalaine) is described as an exemplary friend, and Gordo—like Miranda—is called an insanely good friend who finally ends up kissing in the movie version.
The list’s emotions are blunt where they need to be, too: Sharpay Evans (Ashley Tisdale) may have been the bad guy on High School Musical, but fans loved her for witty comebacks, over-the-top fashion choices, and dedication to her craft—and because she always redeemed herself in the end.
It closes in on the characters that still feel like cultural shorthand. Lilly Truscott is praised as a faithful friend to Miley on Hannah Montana. with her own strong personality—“We could all use a Lilly in our lives.” Raven Baxter (Raven-Symoné) is called a legend: hilarious and witty. fearless and fabulous.
And finally, the winner is named without hesitation: London Tipton (Brenda Song), the Disney Channel’s spoofy answer to Paris Hilton.
“Yay me!” anyone?
