Ayaneo’s next retro handheld is back in familiar territory: the company is revisiting the iconic Game Boy look once again. This time, though, it’s also attaching a new promise—AI—onto a device it says will be “extremely compact.”
The handheld in question is the Konkr Pocket Block. Ayaneo announced it ahead of more details later. showing only what it looks like and leaning into a pocketable form factor. The company did not specify what the AI features will actually do. nor did it clarify what makes the Konkr Pocket Block “the world’s first AI handheld.”.
During one of Ayaneo’s streaming sessions. the company’s CEO. Arthur Zhang. ran side-by-side comparisons between the Konkr Pocket Block and Ayaneo’s previous vertical handhelds. The lineup referenced in those comparisons included the Pocket Vert and the Pocket DMG. Instead of the sleek. minimalist look that Ayaneo has used on those earlier devices. the Konkr Pocket Block is aimed at “retro aesthetics.”.
Ayaneo also compared the device’s place in its broader strategy. The company says the Konkr Pocket Block will be smaller than its previous vertical handhelds. and it’s being positioned under Ayaneo’s budget sub-brand. That matters for one big reason: the upcoming handheld’s price is still the central question.
Ayaneo’s premium handhelds can cost more than $1,000, and its Pocket Vert starts at $269. With the Konkr Pocket Block expected to be released under the budget label, Ayaneo’s pricing could land notably lower than its higher-end offerings—though the company hasn’t confirmed any number yet.
For now, all anyone can do is wait for the “future” details Ayaneo says it will share. The visuals are set. The Game Boy-inspired direction is clear. But the AI part is still the mystery—especially if buyers are hoping it comes along with a price that finally makes Ayaneo’s retro ambitions feel reachable.
