Pittsburgh Penguins Forward Ben Kindel Hospitalized in Utah Following Medical Episode

Pittsburgh Penguins forward Ben Kindel was hospitalized in Salt Lake City on Tuesday after suffering an unexpected medical episode that forced his team’s charter flight to turn around shortly after takeoff.
The incident occurred as the Penguins were traveling home following a 5-4 defeat against the Utah Mammoth on Monday evening. According to an official statement released by the team, the flight returned to Salt Lake City International Airport immediately after the situation arose onboard.
Team physician Dr. Dharmesh Vyas and other members of the club’s medical staff administered immediate care to Kindel while the aircraft was still in the air. Upon landing at the airport, the 19-year-old hockey player was transferred directly to the University of Utah Hospital for further medical evaluation and treatment.
In their statement, the Penguins reported that Kindel is currently conscious, alert, and resting in stable condition. The organization did not disclose the specific nature or severity of the medical episode, nor did they provide additional updates regarding his ongoing status or whether the rest of the team has since resumed its journey back to Pittsburgh.
Kindel is currently in his second season in the National Hockey League. Selected by Pittsburgh in the first round as the No. 11 overall pick in the 2025 NHL Draft, the young forward has skated in nine games this season. He has contributed four points, consisting of two goals and two assists, while averaging 17 minutes and 19 seconds of ice time per contest, primarily anchoring the club as its third-line center.
